Redcar and Cleveland swimming pools set to reopen.

SWIMMING pools across Redcar and Cleveland, operated by Everyone Active, are set to reopen after being closed for almost five months due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Following the successful reopening of gyms and exercise studios earlier this month, Guisborough Swim and Fitness Centre, Loftus Leisure centre, Saltburn Leisure centre and Redcar and Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart will reopen their pools on Saturday, August 22. Swimming lessons will also start again on this date.

Unfortunately, the opening of Eston swimming pool will be delayed as repairs are needed due to flood damage. Customers will be communicated to directly regarding the details for the reopening of the pool via   The gym at Eston Leisure Centre reopened on August 1.

A variety of measures have been introduced across the leisure facilities including booking in advance for sessions and fewer lessons within the pool at any one time, to allow for both children and swimming teachers to social distance.

Lesson times will be staggered so there will be fewer classes starting and finishing at the same time and only one parent/guardian is asked to attend with a child, to reduce the number of people in the centre. Full details on Everyone Active’s reopening measures can be found here.

Cabinet Member for Health, Housing and Welfare, Councillor Steve Kay, said: “Swimming is a great activity for people of all ages to get active and stay healthy and it is good to see the swimming pools reopening again.

“However, we must all remain vigilant to ensure we control the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible. It is important that visitors to the leisure facilities follow the social distancing and safety procedures in place, so our leisure facilities are safe for everyone to enjoy.”

Martin Miles, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, added: “After a successful reopening of our gyms and studios, we’re pleased to take the next step in our phased reopening plan and get everyone active in our swimming pools again!

“Ensuring we maintain a safe environment for our colleagues and customers is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance. We encourage visitors to read through the changes we are making so we can maintain a safe environment for everyone.

“Thank you to everyone for their patience during this time.”
