Police carrying out speed checks on the A174 near Wilton, found 173 drivers speeding on the 50mph limit road in less than two hours.
Due to concerns raised by members of the public, the Camera Enforcement Unit checked vehicles on the afternoon of Friday 25th October.
Inspector Darren Breslin said: “There are a large number of people who use the A174 to travel and it is concerning that some people think it is acceptable to ignore the speed limit.
“Our aim is speed compliance and not enforcement, as we want to save people from being killed or seriously injured on our roads.
“We thank those drivers who did stick within the limit and hope that others will take on board our message; speeding kills.”
Further speeding checks will take place on the A174 in the upcoming months.
