A TEMPORARY booking system at Dunsdale Recycling Centre is to be extended in an effort to prevent queues over the festive period.
The system has been in place since 6 November when essential sewage works were being carried out near the site affecting the entrance road.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have taken the decision to keep the system in place until January, as the facility can become extremely busy after Christmas.
Councillor Barry Hunt, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Environment at the Council, said: “The booking system has worked really well over the past few weeks, and Dunsdale Recycling Centre does become extremely busy after Christmas, so we have decided to extend it over the Christmas and New Year period.
“The entrance road to the centre is a main road between Guisborough and Redcar and we want to avoid any queues on the main highway, so if you have a reason to visit over the next few weeks, we are kindly requesting that you take a couple of minutes to book your slot in advance.
“Whilst we will always try and accommodate all of our residents that visit the site, we may, during peak times, have to turn those vehicles away that have not pre-booked a slot.”
Appointments are available from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
To book a slot, please visit www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk Residents who do not have access to a computer or internet can book an appointment by calling 01642 774 774.
Permit type vehicles including vans, commercial vehicles or any vehicles with trailers are limited to the first 2 hours of the day only, and still need a permit to access the site. Details on permits can be found on the Council’s website.
Other rules include:
- One person only per car (Blue Badge holders can be accompanied by a family member);
- Social distancing of at least 2 metres will be strictly enforced;
- Site employees will not be able to assist with unloading;
- A resident must enter all details on the booking form or their request will be cancelled.
