THE Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland invites residents from across the borough to a ceremony to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day.
The ceremony will take place this Monday (27 January) at 10am, in Redcar’s Garden of Remembrance. Local residents will join civic officials, representatives of the British Legion and school children remembering those who died in the Holocaust as well as in the genocides of Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
Mayor Cllr Billy Wells said: “It is important that we mark Holocaust Memorial Day not just within the Borough, but worldwide to keep informing the next generations that we remember the atrocities that were committed and ensure that we never allow anyone to repeat them again.
“It’s crucial that we pause to reflect on the tragic events from World War II, not just to remember the fallen but to pay tribute to the survivors. I would encourage people to come along and join us in remembrance.”
The Garden of Remembrance is located on Coatham Road, opposite the Cenotaph and members of the public are welcome to attend.
