Redcar and Cleveland businesses can now take advantage of cash grants to support them during the Covid-19 crisis.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is distributing the Small Business Grant Fund and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund locally, with some businesses receiving their grants as early as today (Thursday 2 April).
A cash grant of £10,000 is available for eligible small businesses who on 11 March 2020 were entitled to Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief.
Eligible businesses in the retail, hospitality or leisure sector will also receive a cash grant of either £10,000 or £25,000 per property depending on rateable value.
Over the past few days, the council has been issuing letters to eligible businesses asking for a copy of their latest bank statement showing their business account number, sort code and address so the Council can arrange payment.
Councillor Wayne Davies, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “Our local businesses are the backbone of our economy, so it is absolutely vital that they are supported during this crisis.
“We have more than 2,250 businesses in our borough that could qualify for this assistance, and our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that those who are eligible get the grant as soon as possible.
“There are several checks we need to make before processing claims so payments can take up to 14 days to administer. We are also running on a reduced workforce due to Covid-19, and we’re doing our best to work through things as quickly as possible.
“If you have already submitted your information but haven’t heard back from us by mid-April, or if you are a business owner and you think you are eligible but have not yet been contacted by the council, please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
